Keeping An Eye On Oxygen Levels

Breathing disorders or other respiratory problems may lead to low levels of oxygen in the blood. Our caregivers try to catch these situations in our senior residents as early as possible by using a pulse oximeter. This simple to use, inexpensive, non-invasive device measures the amount of oxygen saturation in the blood stream. The goal is for a reading of 95% saturation or higher. Lower than that may be a sign of a dangerous condition (hypoxia or hypoxemia), which require getting to a hospital immediately. Watch this video to see how easy the oximeter is to use.
