When assisting a senior to stand, it is important to build safety for the senior and the caregiver into the process. If the person is in a wheelchair, make sure the brakes of both wheels are locked. The caregiver should be on the side of the senior and have their feet apart for balance and for leverage. The walker should be set in front of the person so it is easy to use once they stand.
